Tiger Lighting Control for a bar and restaurant
At The Duchess and Dressmaker in Brentwood, a Tiger lighting control system was specified to deliver consistent control across the entire venue. The site includes a bar, lounge, restaurant, conservatory and garden areas. Each space has its own character, but the lighting needed to feel connected throughout.
The brief was to bring a wide mix of lighting types into a single, easy-to-manage control system. The solution had to support atmosphere-led hospitality lighting, while remaining practical for everyday operation by staff.
Design challenge
The main challenge was managing variety without complication. Feature pendants, low-level architectural lighting and functional downlights all needed to work together. Each area required a different emphasis, depending on use and time of day.
As guests move through the venue, the lighting needed to transition naturally. The experience had to remain consistent from the interior spaces through the conservatory and into the garden. At the same time, the system had to be simple, robust and dependable in a busy hospitality environment.
Lighting control strategy
Tiger was configured as a leading-edge dimming system. It was selected for its straightforward installation and reliable performance across mixed lighting loads. This approach allowed multiple lighting types to be controlled without adding unnecessary system complexity.
The system manages bar and lounge pendants, creating warmth and visual focus. Linear LED lighting beneath banquet seating and around the bar adds subtle definition at low level. Step-tread lighting supports safe circulation, particularly in reduced ambient conditions. Downlights are used where focused illumination is required, without overpowering the overall scheme.
The lighting strategy extends beyond the main interior spaces. Festoon lighting runs through the conservatory and continues into the garden. By including these areas within the same control system, the entire site operates as one coordinated lighting environment.
User interaction & experience
User interaction is handled through two Tiger Control Plates These provide localised control between the bar and restaurant spaces. Staff can adjust scenes quickly to suit service style, time of day or event use.
From the guest’s perspective, the lighting feels calm and considered. Changes occur smoothly and at appropriate moments. The controls remain unobtrusive, allowing the lighting to support atmosphere, comfort and movement throughout the venue.
System overview
Tiger also provides circuit-by-circuit RCBO protection. This adds a layer of resilience and electrical safety across the installation. It also supports long-term maintenance and fault finding, without disrupting the wider system.
The completed installation delivers a cohesive lighting experience across The Duchess and Dressmaker. Interior and exterior areas are unified under a single control strategy. The lighting enhances the character of each space, while maintaining consistency throughout the site.
The result is a flexible, reliable lighting control solution that supports both daily service and the wider guest experience.
