Lighting Control for a Floating Landmark Restaurant

Hawksmoor Wood Wharf is a striking floating pavilion restaurant in Canary Wharf and the largest Hawksmoor site in London. Gently rising and falling with the tide, it offers a unique dining experience both dockside and on the expansive waterside terrace. Inside, the restaurant and bar blend seamlessly, catering to everything from after-work drinks and cocktail nights to business events, large group bookings and family-friendly Sunday roasts.

Lighting Control Objectives

The aim was to create a flexible lighting environment that supported a range of moods and events, from relaxed weekday dining to glamorous weekend evenings. With the venue’s architectural complexity and the variety of experiences offered across the different spaces, the lighting control system needed to be both robust and adaptable — while also remaining easy for staff to operate.

Our Solution

Mode Lighting provided a Tiger control system managing 84 lighting circuits, using a combination of Leading Edge dimming and 1–10V control. This approach allowed fine-tuned lighting control throughout the restaurant, bar, and terrace areas. Pre-set scenes were programmed to suit different times of day and styles of service, ensuring that ambience and functionality worked hand-in-hand.

The result is a seamless integration of lighting control that enhances the Hawksmoor experience without complication. From subtle changes in ambience to bold shifts for evening service, the system provides intuitive control over all lighting zones. Whether it’s brunch on the terrace, an after-work steak, or a private evening celebration, the lighting adapts effortlessly to match the occasion.
