Adaptive Lighting Control with eDIN+
Material Source Studio London is a creative destination for architects, interior designers and specifiers — a place where materials, ideas and design thinking come together. To support the studio’s evolving programme of workshops, events and displays, the lighting needed to be as flexible as the space itself. The team required a control system that felt effortless for day-to-day use, yet powerful enough to adapt instantly to new layouts and activities.
Mode Lighting supplied a complete lighting control solution, designed around our eDIN+ platform and engineered to work seamlessly with the Tuneable White luminaires and Dali Track Lighting installed throughout the studio.
A dynamic studio space powered by intelligent lighting control.
The studio is arranged into multiple zones, each used for a different purpose. Tunable white lighting was essential, enabling designers to assess materials under varied colour temperatures and allowing the ambience to adapt to workshops, talks or evening events.
To achieve this level of flexibility, Mode Lighting implemented our eDIN+ DALI and DALI DT8 control architecture. All luminaires are managed through a dedicated eDIN+ cabinet discreetly housed at the rear of the studio, providing clean aesthetics with easy access for commissioning and adjustments. This centralised approach ensures long-term scalability, consistent performance and simple ongoing maintenance.
Lighting that transforms instantly at the touch of a button.
A wall-mounted touchscreen in the Parkside area gives staff immediate access to scenes, colour temperature settings and zone overrides. With a single tap, the studio can be prepared for a workshop, switched into presentation mode or set for an evening event. Additional modes for cleaning, maintenance and out-of-hours operation help streamline day-to-day use.
Complementing the touchscreen, four Geneva keypads are positioned throughout the main studio. Their refined design integrates subtly into the interior while giving designers, visitors and staff quick access to pre-set scenes and tunable white adjustments, without needing to navigate menus or deeper controls.

Mode Lighting’s integration with RTI over IP ensures the lighting system works in harmony with the studio’s audio-visual infrastructure. Lighting scenes can be synchronised with presentations, product demonstrations and events, creating a seamless and professional environment that requires minimal setup.
The control system also includes automated DALI emergency testing, further enhancing reliability and compliance. The eDIN+ platform performs scheduled checks for driver and fixture failures, recording results automatically and helping the studio maintain its safety systems without manual intervention.

The result is a highly adaptable lighting control system that supports the creative purpose of Material Source Studio London. Tunable white lighting enhances material exploration, scene-based control ensures fast transitions between uses, and the discreet eDIN+ infrastructure keeps the environment clean, modern and functional. Automated emergency testing adds robust safety monitoring without disrupting daily operations.
As the studio continues to evolve with new exhibitions, workshops and events, its lighting — powered by Mode Lighting — evolves with it. The eDIN+ platform ensures the space remains responsive, flexible and inspiring for every visitor.
